A piece of software that runs inside of Word and serves a special purpose.
Add-ins are usually developed by companies other than Microsoft and are intended to provide functionality that did not come with Word. For example, one company makes an add-in that creates and formats a bibliography for you -- something Word does not do.

A shortened name for a style.
Word enables you to apply a style by typing either the style name or the alias into the "Style" drop-down menu. If an alias is short, it is easier to type the alias than to type the full style name.

For example, if you have several shapes, one above the other, you might want to align their left edges. This means that the left edge of each shape will be the same distance from the left edge of the document.

The part of certain tall lowercase letters (such as "b"), that rises above the rest of the letter.

Going from the lowest to the highest.
For example, if you have a list of names sorted alphabetically in ascending order, the names will go from A to Z. If the list were sorted in descending order, the names would go from Z to A.
If you have a list of ages sorted numerically in ascending order, they will go from youngest to oldest. In descending order, the will go from oldest to youngest.

For example, if you accidentally type "teh", it will be replaced with "the". You can also use this feature to save the effort of typing frequently used words or phrases. For example, you can set it to type out "John Smith" every time you type ";js".

The labels come in a variety of layouts, which determine the size of each label and the number of labels per sheet. Word makes it easy to print labels in the correct place on the sheet.
